From first-hand experience and measurements. AEV trucks sit the same height as a leveled Power Wagon when on the same size wheels. It's actually kind of a waste on a Power Wagon for the money spent. They take the PW coils for example, which are a softer rate and offer better flex offroad and replace them with the stiffer standard coils then shove metal spacers in there.

So they took taller rear coils, and replaced them with shorter coils with spacers. You get only marginally better Bilstein shocks. Your track bar was already the right length, but AEV goes and oh well, etc, etc.

The whole kit is designed around the standard and users who want a mild lift, with big tires and tow and stuff. So a lot of it is redundant on the PW and weakening what was already a great truck. Bang for dollar, it's a real loss when compared with a Thuren overland setup for example.

Look it's your truck, not bashing it or you. Leading a group of Power Wagons through Moab each year, we get to see first hand how certain setups perform on the same terrain. It's pretty insightful. Tags: None.

Ask Us Anything: Fox Vs King, Fitting 37's, Ride and Tire Size, Is Suspension Worth the Cost?

I know a lot of people knock the AEV for just being a spacer lift. With that said, at the end of the day it's your money. Have you read the review on the cummins forum? Lots of great information there. Comment Post Cancel. All depends on how you use your truck.

If you tow with your power wagon a lot, then the AEV kit along with the regular springs will be an upgrade for you. If you off road your power wagon heavily, then you will be taking a step backward by removing the stock suspension for the AEV kit. AEV Chris. Also, just to throw this information into the mix, it is not a spacer lift as it is more of a spring relocation mount.

A spacer is cheap and would keep the bad angle when the truck is lifted. With the spring relocation mount, you maintain an OEM angle on your spring so there is no added stress to the components while also pushing the axle forward. It is more expensive for us to manufacture the aluminum block than it would be to create 2 springs 1 gas spring, 1 diesel spring. The goal of our suspension on HD Rams was minimal lift to get the largest possible tire.Login or Sign Up.

Of note I don't live in the desert. Rocky mountains. I think the trails around me are worse for your truck at 20mph than the desert is at Comment Post Cancel. I am running a carli kit on m 16' mega. I run with NO swaybar. I recently added Firestone airbags with daystar cradles.

Regardless of what the Carli sales folks say, my experience says the full carli leaves about cut your payload in half. My truck squats pretty hard with a k tool trailer. A 15k bumper pull trailer had the carli leaves on the bump stops. I have some landscaping to do in the next month, so I will see what a bed full of rock or topsoil does with the bags 5psi and them pump them up.

I did not notice any real reduction in ride quality with the firestone bags 5psi. Over all on road ride quality of the Carli kit: Good. Any dipshit that says this kit makes your ride like a caddy has never been near a caddilac or a Camry for that matter.

It is still a big giggly truck with a long wheel base, ladder frame, huge tires and LOTS of unsprung weight in the axles. It rides nice on the highway. Around town on potholed streets, well it rides fine, better than stock, but still a big truck.

Everyone is biased so just go with what ever rep is able to answer or explain why their kit will work better for you. All of the companies you listed have done their homework. That being said, I used carli control arms, track bar, and end links and they are top notch! This truck handles much, much better than it did with stock components.

And I do believe that a good portion of the cost difference is in the shocks as well. I am more than pleased with the FOX 2. The carli guys have always prided themselves in having perfectly custom tuned shocks, and I cannot see how stock springs and Bilstein s could compare in ride to a set of progressive coils and custom valved FOXs.

As I suspected, they said it would be way too stiff due to the weight difference. In a nutshell he told me they sell kits custom engineered for an exact application and it would be a waste of money for me. I actually respect that he told me the truth. Their kits aren't cheap as we all know.

He said they have been getting a lot of calls for more gas kits but it would be at least a couple more months but probably longer before they have time to develop the gas kit.

I'm considering switching to a BDS leveling kit their spacers seem like they have more engineering I'm trying to be patient but I drive a lot so if this kit or just better shocks makes a difference I might do it for now.Competition Diesel.

Having a hard time deciding between these 4. Truck is a pavement pounder unless I'm at the deer lease. Just want a nice ride and good handling. Shocks will be determined by which springs I go with.

Thoughts, comments, wise ass remarks? I have a carli back country kit on my 07 and I love it. Smoothened out the ride and the reservoir shocks look and work great. I really don't think you could go wrong with any of the above choices. They are all high quality and have lots of options to suit your needs. Sent from my XT using Tapatalk. For high speed offroad, the only choices are Carli or Thuren. For a good road ride with mild offroad, Lorenz is good.

Kore is okay all the way around, but their springs generally have a higher spring rate stiffer. FWIW, I've had the 2. The 1st gen Dodge I have has some Carli but alot of one-off things that Thuren helped me with. I ran the Lorenz springs with bilsteins on my 05 dually. The ride quality was much better than stock. Sent from my XT What year truck, this will make a difference on spring selection and lift you will gain?

Next in line would be Pure Performance. I am piecing a carli and thuren setup together. Some of each. I have Carli springs and control arms only because I Thuren hadn't come out with a spring height that I wanted, but now he does.Skip to content. Quick links. Carli VS. All I need to order now are new control arms. I plan on going with either the thuren or carli arms. I like the look of the boxy carli arms over the thurens but the the thurens seem to be easier to rebuild when the time comes.

I know guys on here are running both already and wanted some insight into both the arms. Thanks guys!!! Re: Carli VS. They both are actually quite easy to service or rebuild but rebuilding is not something that most people will ever have to do. Central Texas and Houston area 5. Easily serviceable and well built. I've had them on my truck for about a year 25k miles Moab tested last May. They're also a bit more budget friendly than Carli or Thuren as well.

Both the exact same to rebuild. Both joints heavily proven. Thurens joints are cheaper because they're simpler to make. When I spoke with Radio at Carli he said he loves Thurens stuff but draws the line on his control arms, wouldn't touch bent tube being used on arms. But there are guys out there running Thurens stuff pretty dang hard and I've never heard of a failure.

Look at your stock arms and I think you'll never worry again about any serious aftermarket arm. The Carlis just look damn cool. But you pay for that. I just did my taxes and I'm about to buy Thurens joints to make my own set of arms similar to Carlis fabricated arms. If you want to hold off after I try mine I could possibly make you a set. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk.

Yes, they are a little pricey. When you have them in your hands, you will know why. There is alot of gusseting inside the fabbed outer shell. I bought Carli because I liked the construction. You can actually feel the difference, even on the street, between a vulcanized rubber bushing and joints that pivot.

How to have a more feminine body as a man

The motion throughout travel is much more smooth. You can't go wrong with either. I know people with Thuren that are just as happy. What grease do you guys run in your arms??? Carli suggests a grease for their joints. Whatever you use, don't ever use a grease with Graphite in it. It's a good material normally but it abrades the polymer in the joint.

On everything.
